VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress confirmed a police officer was shot multiple times during a shooting Friday morning. The officer was identified as Randal Hancock. Childress held a press conference at 12:15 p.m. Hancock was taken to surgery and is recovering from his wounds. Childress said the shooter, who has not been identified, is also recovering from gun shot wounds.

City officials confirmed that the shooting at a Valdosta apartment complex was officer involved. The shooting happened at around 8:00 a.m. Friday at the Three Oaks Apartment complex on North Oak Street Extension. Officials said an officer was called to the complex for damage to property. The GBI lead investigator says when the officer arrived on scene to respond to the call at the apartment complex, he was under fire immediately. The officer returned fire hitting the individual who was shooting at him. The GBI says both were transported to the hospital, and the officer went into surgery. The shooter was transported to another hospital for additional care.
